João de Deus, sentenced to another 118 years in prison

Goiás Justice  sentenced, on Tuesday, 15, the medium João Teixeira de Faria, also known as João de Deus, to another 118 years in prison in his last three lawsuits for sexual crimes.

According to the Goiás Court of Justice o (TJ-GO), the crimes were committed between the years 2010 and 2017, in Abadiânia, involving 18 people.

The conviction is for the crimes of rape, sexual rape through fraud and rape of the vulnerable. He was acquitted, however, of the charge of a crime against consumer relations, for insufficient evidence regarding authorship. The sentence of Judge Marcos Boechat Lopes Filho provides for compensation for moral damages to victims in amounts of up to R$ 100,000.

In total, the medium was denounced in relation to crimes committed against 66 victims and convicted in relation to 56 of them. The extinction of punishability for decay or prescription in relation to 120 victims was recognized.

João Teixeira de Faria remains under house arrest, due to a decision handed down in second instance. Also according to the Court, the defendant’s defense made six appeals against condemnatory sentences, which were known and partially provided. Two of them are on appeal at the Superior Court of Justice and have not yet been tried. No judgment has become final so far, according to the TJGO.
