CGU takes over investigation against Abraham Weintraub for abandonment of position at UNIFESP

CGU assumes investigation against Abraham Weintraub for abandonment of position at UNIFESP

The Office of the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) took for itself two disciplinary proceedings of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) against Abraham Weintraub, former Minister of Education and professor of accounting sciences. Weintraub, who in April had his salary suspended, faces accusations of abandonment of office and unjustified absences.

The decision was communicated to Unifesp on the 28th. It is up to the CGU to evaluate the regularity and legality of the internal investigations of any federal agency. Thus, the processes will now follow in the Inspector General’s Office of the Union.

Weintraub was reported to the university Ombudsman’s Office in April for the alleged infractions. In addition to him, Daniela Weintraub, his wife and also a teacher, had her remuneration cut.

After his departure from the government in 2020, Bolsonaro appointed Weintraub to a board at the World Bank in the USA, where he received R$ 116,000. Subsequently, Weintraub broke with Bolsonaro. He was unable to be elected as a federal deputy in a later attempt.
